Condition: Excellent Manufacturer: Redware This is an awesome redware batter jug with it's wire and wood handle still intact! It measures 8" tall, about 7" diameter at the widest part, an opening of 4 1/8" and 9 3/4" from spout to handle. Note the bottom of this piece with the red tint. The glaze is a dark, matte brown slip. The handle is heavy wire with a wood center. Condition is very good with no cracks.

There is some normal chipping on the rear, bottom ear handle (the color under the chip is gray) commiserate with age and a few glaze misses and flakes. The wire handle has aged and has some rust and it moves sluggishly up and down so I've moved it very little in order to save the "ear handles" that hold the wire. Note that one wire bends up through an ear handle and one wire bends down - an interesting fact of note. It most likely dates in the late 1800's. This nice piece is from my private collection purchased at an antique shop, it has graced my kitchen countertop for the past twenty-five years as a spoon holder so it is not only beautiful but functional as well! Please note this item is housed at The Old Timey Shop - my apologies if it sells there and I don't remove this listing promptly!
